Specialty Pharmaceuticals: Remedy the Pain Points for Self-Insured Employers
The growth of specialty medications will challenge employers to improve patient access to treatment and ensure affordability. This will require targeted programs, financial solutions and other initiatives that relieve expensive pricing and ensure medication access. For example, spending on global oncology products is expected to grow at a rate of 13% to 16% through 2027, driven by early diagnosis and the continued introduction of new drugs. The current oncology pipeline is expected to add more than 100 new drugs in the next five years, which includes treatment through cell therapy, RNA therapy, and immuno-oncology treatments. This session will highlight key pain points, along with strategies self-insured employers can employ to ease the pain.

Empowering Plan Participants to Leverage Cost Containment Strategies
Savvy self-funded plan sponsors understand the importance of cost containment programs made possible by flexible plan design and data analytics. These programs, however, have limited impact if your most valuable assets, your employees, are not educated and empowered to utilize them. One effective approach is to organize employee “workshops” focused on providing them the information they need to access health benefits in way that is optimal for both them and the plan sponsors. Our speakers will provide practical guidance on how to organize such workshops and maximize engagement opportunities.

What’s Going Right & Wrong with Federal Price Transparency?
Gradually, Federal price transparency requirements such as the public disclosure of negotiated rates and allowed amounts on machine-readable files will be transformative. In the meantime, compliance, implementation, and the administrative burden related to these disclosure requirements has been anything but smooth. This panel will discuss the ups-and-downs of price transparency, the limitations of usability, and the overwhelming volume of data, and we will explore areas where modifications and improvements should be made.

Surprise Medical Billing and the Federal IDR Process: How’s It Going?
The Federal Portal used to process Federal IDR disputes has been “live” for nearly 16 months, with hundreds of thousands of disputes entered into the system. Litigation spear-headed by providers has resulted in modified Federal regulations and numerous delays, causing headaches for self-insured plans and their service providers. Add in the fact that the certified Federal arbiters are overwhelmed, and in some cases, fail to follow the rules. This panel will discuss how things have gone over the past year-and-a-half, the bumps along the way, and how stakeholders are reacting to Federal guidance that is intended to smooth out the current process.

Gag Clauses and Fiduciary Responsibilities: Where’s Our Claims Data?
Self-insured plan sponsors have long battled over the ownership of their participants’ claims data, which medical providers and owners of provider networks have routinely refused to share. While the Federal gag clause prohibition is now cemented in law, these same providers and network owners are still balking. Questions of fiduciary responsibilities for the plan sponsor and the owner of the provider networks are at the center of this debate. This panel will explore these issues, discuss recent litigation, and how to navigate claims accessibility.

Planning For AI-Powered Organizations
There has never been a more important time to reinvent the organization. Remote work and the rise of generative AI platforms are just the beginning of a much bigger revolution that is set to reshape the future of work itself. Whether it be how we engage our customers, how we automate our processes, or even how we make decisions as leaders – the ability to effectively transform data into value will be at the heart of the 21st century business. However, simply engaging on digital channels will no longer be enough for a company’s future survival – the real challenge is knowing how to build an AI-powered organization, including those involved in the self-insurance marketplace.
